"MOMFIDENCE"

Image
My children give me such “ MOMFIDENCE ” (My spell check just became my enemy) in my ability to succeed at any and everything I attempt. When I … Don’t feel like fixing my hair and throw it back in a quick French braid, my girls somehow see me as a beauty queen . Or when… I make heart shaped cheese sandwiches, I’m suddenly the “ best cook ” in the country. My favorite is when… I draw stick figures with a (triangle shaped) skirt and add colorful flowers and my children see me as a talented artist . I love that when… I move throughout my day I hear, “You’re the bestest mom ever ! in the whole world” so many times, that I lose count. All I have to do is… add a necklace to my outfit and they think I’m ready to be on the cover of one of those magazines they see at the checkout stand. If I make… homemade pizza, they feel I 've instantly been qualified for the position of the school lunch lady and beg me to prepare a new menu for the school lunches and become the cook. photography gone wild

A trip to the local zoo is reason enough to bring the camera along. I was able to view the zoo through the lens of my camera for the first time. There is something about not using your hands to push a stroller, change diapers, or prepare bottles, that makes a trip to the zoo much more inviting. I love that the children are older now and I get to follow them instead of push them along. I thoroughly enjoyed the weather, the view, my children, and the company of my sister and her children on this little trip to the zoo and just wanted to share some of the photos I captured throughout the day. The favorite activity of the day was challenging each others speed This little dude just couldn't sit still and enjoy the ride. Each time around was a different pose.

The last of my beginning readers

As I sat beside Brit today and listened to her read, memories flooded my mind as I recalled this same process with my four other children. Each one varied in their ability to "catch on". For some the process was a little more challenging. I remember the look of frustration that would surface as each one would try to decode those unfamiliar letters. The reward always came when I saw their little faces light up, and listened to the excitement in their voice as they were able to finally blurt out the correct word. "Reading Time" became humorous and entertaining as I watched them grasp the meaning of an exclamation point, and listened as their voices suddenly became more animated. As Brit read, I watched all those familiar facial expressions come alive as she would now, take her turn, to learn how to put those phonograms to use. I realized how precious this time is and how quickly it vanishes. I found myself focusing more closely on her words and really tuning in, try
